BETH McELHENNY - Writer. Director. Producer - BROOKWOOD FILMS PDF Print E-mail

In addition to being recognized as director, producer, editor and cinematographer, Beth is also a talented screenwriter. She has been honored by the Austin Film Festival as well as the Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship, and has films screen annually at the Big Bear Film Festival.

Beth is currently touring the film festival circuit with her latest writing/directing project STILL ME - a touching story that illustrates the challenges a stroke victim has when dealing with family and friends who cannot see past his newly acquired physical disability. Recycled Movie supports Beth in all her endeavors and is honored to have her onboard as executive producer, mentor and friend.

Raised in Brooklyn NY, Beth was strongly influenced by her families' 8mm home movies. Unfortunately for Beth, when the Bell & Howell was pulled out, none of the clan were exempt from the glaring flood light. This early trauma prompted her to remain behind the camera…

When she wasn't trading Topps Yankees cards, young Beth was filling shoeboxes with negatives, and this early experience led her to win a local Kodak filmmaking competition. Continuing her education at Bob Jones University's film school, her senior film "Maybe Later" was chosen to air on PBS in NYC.

Soon after arriving in Los Angeles, Beth dove into the digital realm, picked up a three chip MiniDV camera, taught herself non-linear editing, and began cranking out new projects. Kindly taking the time to share her abundance of knowledge, tools, and equipment with her friends and colleagues, her production company "Brookwood Films" was officially underway.(www.brookwoodfilms.com)

To help further her filmmaking knowledge, Beth has volunteered as an instructor assistant in the UCLA Entertainment Studies Dept., working with instructors Ira Teller, Charles Bernstein, Jack Cooperman. Beth's collaboration with Final Draft has allowed her to assist with many well known writers, actors, and even some Oscar winners with their scriptwriting software. These personal associations have allowed her to provide wonderfully talented guest speakers to organizations such as the Script Writer's Network (www.scriptwritersnetwork.org), and the Big Bear Film Festival (www.bigbearlakefilmfestival.com) where she is acting Assistant Program Director.
